training orientation was given on teachers’ capacity building.

The capacity building training was organized by Jimma University in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, with the aim of improving the subject matter and pedagogical capacity of high school teachers in Ethiopia.

In his opening speech, Professor Gemechis File, the Administrative and Development Vice President of Jimma University, acknowledged the problems with the quality of education in the country. He noted that while attempts have been made to improve teachers’ capacity, the results have not been satisfactory. To address this, the university is focusing on three key areas: input (including teachers’ capacity building and educational leadership), process, and product.

Dr. Teklu Gemmachu then described the training process. He emphasized that attendance by the trainers is mandatory. The training participants will be enrolled on July 22nd and will receive an orientation on July 23rd.

The training will involve three main steps: a pre-test, the training itself, and an exit exam. To receive a certificate, participants must score at least 70%, with 30% of the assessment based on their performance and 70% on the exit exam.

After the orientation, the training participants were assigned to different rooms based on their departments to begin the actual training, which is based on modules prepared by the Ministry of Education.
