Repositioning Academic Libraries

Jimma University held a panel discussion on the theme: “The Role of Academic Libraries in Teaching-Learning and Research Activities”. Dr. Tadesse Habtamu, VP for academic affairs on his opening speech said that Academic libraries are the backbones of research, teaching-learning process and Community Services.
The objective of the panel discussion is repositioning of Academic Libraries for the demands in 21st century research and teaching-learning.
On the occasion, presentation has been made on Overview of Jimma University library System (JULS), Repositioning the role of academic libraries for research and academic excellence, and mapping the functions of JULS.
During the discussion with participants Jimma University has confirmed that the library will be capacitated to serve as a plagiariam checking hub and archive for research works. Along with the panel discussion an exhibition showing JULS’s long journey to success has been presented.
Guests from Metu, Wollega and Wolkite Universities, Jimma Zone and Town education offices, and public library heads have participated on the panel discussion.
