On April 25, 2023, Jimma University was awarded a Crystal Award for its outstanding contribution to community service in the successful reintegration of Migrant Returnees.
The event, which took place at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, recognized the university’s efforts in the area of project leadership and the reintegration of migrant returnees.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Solomon Tulu, accepted the award on behalf of the university, while the project coordinator, Ahmed Seid (Assistant Professor), was also honored for his successful leadership of the projects and team achievements.
Jimma University has long been committed to its motto of “we are in the community,” which has been reflected in its Community-Based Education approach and numerous community service projects and activities that have benefited the community for years.
In partnership with the EU-IOM Joint Initiative program, Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine has implemented a variety of livelihood projects benefiting migrant returnees and communities of return in the Jimma Zone over the last five years. Among these successful projects are the Integrated Chicken-Fish Farming, the Gibe Dam Fish Farm, and integrated modern beekeeping and environment rehabilitation projects, which have directly benefited 3,325 migrant returnees, potential migrants, and their family members.
