National Recognition for Outstanding Contributions to Road Safety.

Jimma University received national recognition during a program organized by the Road Safety Fund Service, aimed at acknowledging and appreciating individuals and organizations that have made significant efforts to enhance road safety.

The event, opened by Dr. Alemu Sime, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, emphasized the global and local damages caused by traffic accidents and the importance of collaborative initiatives in reducing their adverse effects.

Jimma University received accolades for its noteworthy endeavors in promoting road safety over the years. The university was commended as the first higher education institution to actively engage in this cause, demonstrating its deep commitment to the welfare of the community.

Jimma University has implemented various initiatives, including the establishment of a specialized research center for road and transportation safety, collaboration with the Federal Road Safety and Insurance Fund Service through a memorandum of understanding, and research partnerships with national and international stakeholders. Furthermore, the university has played a pivotal role in developing road safety standards.

As part of the program, participants presented and discussed an article focusing on road safety activities, challenges, and future directions in the country.
