The Jimma University’s community is deeply saddened and grieved to know the passing of Honorary Dr. Laurette Artist Lemma Guya. He was an exceptional figure who dedicated all his life to his country and the art profession through which he conveyed messages and promoted the mosaic culture of his country. He was an impressive person and a hero to the new generation by creating inspiration towards their culture and learn their root where the new generation need to protect, know and feel a sense of belongingness. He also pioneered skin-mounted portraits and on which he drawn many Heads of States across Africa.
He received Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Jimma University in July 2015 for his magnificent contribution.
He will always be remembered for his outstanding contribution. We wish quick recovery for his family, friends and to the family of art from the sadness and grief of losing such an iconic personality.
