JU’s Young Female Researcher Receives Award from UNESCO

Jimma University is pleased to announce Mrs Fenet Belay Daba (Assistant Professor) from College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, won the prize from The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for her contributions in research and community service areas. The national competition, at which she received the award, was organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MOSHE) on the Science Week celebrated under the motto “Ethiopian Women in Science”.

In the process of selecting the awardees, female researchers have competed on the four main parameters: the number of published articles, community service engagement, and participation on mega research projects, grants winning and on university-industry linkage participation. About 45 female researchers have participated from different higher learning institutions in Ethiopia and three of them were selected for the UNESCO’s award. Accordingly, Mrs. Fenet was selected based on her publication and active engagement in different community services and mega research projects as a young researcher. Mrs. Fenet Belay has published more than ten scientific articles on international reputable journals out of which five are published just in a year (2018/19); she participated in different community service projects and Mega research projects.
