JU hosts a Workshop with IBA Ethiopia

JU organizes a one day workshop in collaboration with IBA Ethiopia, Center for Innovation on the grand title “Challenges of Transforming Innovative Researches in to Practical Business and Sustaining Startups.” The workshop was held on the 22nd of May, 2019 at JU’s Big Senate Hall.

The major aim of the workshop is to sensitize young and motivated staff members and students of JU to actively engage in innovation and entrepreneurship activities and upgrade their research based innovative scientific projects to business enterprises. This will enable them to setup an independent business accelerator which will grow in to companies with higher capacity to create employment opportunities beyond themselves.  Papers were presented by various scholars on the challenges of sustaining start ups, the contribution of innovation for national development and Innovation and entrepreneurship in the context of JU.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Ashenafi Mulugeta, Managing Director of IBA Ethiopia has also shared his rich experience on launching new business on which he emphasized idea is the most crucial gate way to be followed by resilience to push the project ideas forward to make them a success irrespective of challenges. Students and staff members of JU also presented their new technological products hand in hand with the challenges they are facing to sustain the business ideas in to high impact marketable products.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The workshop strengthened the commitment of JU and IBA in the facilitation, commercialization and acceleration of investments on start-ups that are incubated by JU’s staff members and students. They also pledged to wards the promotion of JU’s graduates and young innovators to transform their creativities into profitable business ventures by linking them with potential investors from local and abroad which will lead to commercialization of creative ideas, self-employment, and transfer of technology and creation of managerial and financial capability.    As part of this effort JU will participate in the African Innovation Week event which will be held in October 2019 in Addis Ababa.
