JU hosted a classic American play, “Death of a Salesman”

Jimma University, school of Theatrical art in collaboration with the US embassy in Addis Ababa hosted a classic American play, Death of a Salesman, which was translated and produced by the well-known playwright and art figure Ato. Alemayehu Gebrehiwot as “Ye Abaweraw Guzo.”
The performance took stage for two consecutive days on May 18th and 19th. On its first day, nearly 2000 JU students attended. On the second day, Dr. Jemal Abafita, JU president, JU staff, and other officials from the town community were in attendance. Invited guests from the US embassy also made the trip to see the play on the second day of performance.
Death of a Salesman is a play written by Arthur Miller that focuses on the promises and challenges of the American dream. Death of a Salesman narrates the last 24 hours in the life of 63-year-old Willy Loman. Loman represents a failed salesman who has a distorted idea of the American Dream and work ethic in his relationship with his wife, his sons, and his acquaintances.
Prominent Ethiopian artists such as Tefaye Gebrehana, Michael Tamire, Surafel Wondimu and other well-known artists took part in the stage play which was translated as “Ye Abaweraw Guzo” in Amharic.
