JU conducts discussion on the assessment results of laboratory facilities

A report on laboratory self-assessment by a twenty-five-member committee constituted by the Vice President for Academic Affairs Office was presented to the executive members of the University, deans/directors of colleges/ institutes, and senior academician on September 3, 2020.
The ensuing discussions by the participants and the executive members revealed the need for the establishment of a University-wide laboratory management system and development of guidelines/policies and procedures for laboratory equipment management, resource utilization, laboratory ethics, laboratory safety, laboratory waste management and construction of the state of the art laboratory for certain identified disciplines.
In his remark, JU’s President, Dr. Jemal Abafita, noted that such a meeting is the beginning of further discussions to bring the university to the desired level of laboratory competency in line with the vision of Jimma University. He reiterated that the University management is committed to providing a working environment that breeds academic and research excellence.
The President concluded by appreciating the efforts of the committee and the dedication of other executive members and the senior academicians during the onsite visits.
