Jimma University and SINTEF, a renowned research institute in Norway, recently collaborated on a significant study focusing on childhood hearing loss among primary school children in Jimma town. The study, conducted in 2022, aimed to promote inclusive education by addressing the critical issue of hearing loss and emphasizing the importance of early detection and intervention.
The workshop featured presentations by key individuals involved in the study, including Mrs. Tone Øderud from SINTEF and Dr. Gugsa Nemera from Jimma University, who provided insights into the project activities, study findings, and the way forward. The event commenced with an opening remark by Professor Netsanet Workneh, Vice President for Research and Community Services at Jimma University, whose dedication to advancing research and community well-being set the tone for the workshop.
The President of Jimma University, Dr. Jamal AbaFita, concluded the workshop by sharing sincere remarks, expressing a vision for a future where no child would have to endure the silent struggles of hearing loss. The workshop served as an important platform to raise awareness, promote collaboration, and work towards creating a world where every child has the opportunity to hear the promise of a brighter future.
The collaborative effort between Jimma University and SINTEF, as well as the dissemination of the study’s findings through the workshop, represent a significant step towards addressing childhood hearing loss and its impact on education and quality of life.
