Jimma University Board of Governors has approved the promotion of Dr. Gemeda Abebe, Dr. Gezahegn Berecha, Dr. Sultan Suleman and Dr. Zeleke Mekonnen to full professorship at its special meeting held on October 31, 2019. Before the approval, rigorous review process have been undertaken for months and decisions have been made by respective Departments and Colleges of the applicants, and approved by the University Senate. The promotion of the faculty members has been endorsed by the Board of Governors of the University after deliberating the Research, Academic and Community Service contributions of the faculty members. Accordingly, our faculty members are promoted to full professorship with the following titles.

Prof. Gemeda Abebe: Professor of Molecular Medical Microbiology
Prof. Gemeda Abebe is a Professor of Molecular Medical Microbiology at the Inistitute of Health in Jimma University. He was born and raised in East Wellega Zone Kiremu Weredea in 1972. He attended his primary school in Kiremu and secondary school at Gidda Ayana Senior Secondary School. He received his BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology from Jimma University, Ethiopia. He got his MSc in Molecular Biology (Human Health) from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium and PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium. Prof. Gezahegn Berecha: Professor of Applied Ecology
Prof. Gezahegn Berecha was born on 15th of November 1976 in South West Shoa zone, Wonchi district at a specific village called “CHITU “of the Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia. He attended his elementary and junior secondary education in CHITU Elementary and Junior Secondary School and his high school education in Dejazimach Geresu Duki Comprehensive Secondary school. Prof. Sultan Suleman: Professor of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Regulatory Affairs
Professor Sultan Suleman Wega is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Regulatory Affairs at the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences Institute of Health, Jimma University. He was born in Bure/Ilu Abba Bor (at a specific village called Nabo) of Oromia regional state, Ethiopia in 1980. Prof. Zeleke Mekonnen: Professor of Medical Parasitology
Prof. Zeleke’s educational career begins at Embabo Primary School Horo-Guduru Wollega where he was born (5th of February 1970) and grew up. He attended his junior secondary school at Kombolcha and high school at Shambu Senior Secondary School. He received his Diploma & BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology from Jimma University (the then Jimma Institute of Health Sciences), Ethiopia. He also received his MSc in Molecular & Cellular Biology from Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg, Germany. He got his PhD in Medical Sciences (Antwerp University, Belgium) & in Veterinary Sciences (Ghent University, Belgium), from a joint program.
