COVID-19 research dissemination workshop has been conducted at Honeyland hotel today. It is obvious that in 2019, COVID-19 has caused huge disruption to the health system and other sectors in Ethiopia, where the research workshop is focused.
Dr. Netsanet Workineh, research and community service vice president has made an opening speech and opened the research workshop officially. Moreover, she appreciated the organizing team and participants from everywhere and emphasized the current status of covid-19 and the need to have joint work between the health system (FMOH through PHCU), Universities, researchers, and the community.
In the workshop, the damage that has happened by COVID-19 was disclosed to the participants, referring to the numbers that accounted for 300 million cases and 5 million deaths globally, and 7000 deaths and 500,000 cases in Ethiopia.
As a result, research has been made on how PHCU was responding to COVID-19 in Ethiopia and how communities are engaged. In the workshop, there were four papers presented by the researchers on primary healthcare functions, responses to covid-19, and impacts on essential healthcare from Jimma University.
The presentations and the discussion were focused on the pandemic that has caused huge disruption to the health system and other sectors in Ethiopia. How PHCU was responding to COVID-19 in Ethiopia and how communities are engaged in responding. Paper presenters were Dr. Zewdie Birhanu, Prof. Morankar Sudhakar, and Mr. Fira Abamecha whereas Dr. Yohannes Kebede was a note-taker.
