Consortium Agreement among Ethiopian Agricultural Universities.

Ethiopian agricultural universities—Jimma, Arba Minch, Bahir Dar, Jigjiga, Mekelle, and Raya—have signed a consortium agreement. This agreement followed a three-day field visit hosted by Mekelle and Raya Universities.

The Consortium, among other things, aims at enhancing quality education through joint efforts in teaching and learning; providing scientific solutions to socio-economic challenges of the nation through conducting collaborative research, knowledge sharing and co-creation of innovative solutions; enhancing community outreach through experience sharing, establishing technology parks/villages, promoting e-platforms; strengthening networks for resource tapping, advocacy and impacts; and jointly contributing to national initiatives, public dialogues, and societal development endeavours.

During the visit, representatives from the consortium universities were joined by the USAID and Kansas State University delegations for discussions. Prof. Dr. Vara Prasad and Dr. Araya Alemie Berhe from Kansas State University, Dr. Yirgalem Gebremeskel presented within the framework of the “Capacity Building of Ethiopian Agricultural Universities” project, funded by USAID under the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Sustainable Intensification.

The delegation toured ongoing project activities at Mekelle and Raya Universities and encouraged the six universities to collaborate in enhancing the socio-economic development of their country.
The consortium agreement envisions creating a productive alliance among agricultural universities in the East African region.
