A workshop that aimed at improving basic health services has been held at Honey Land Hotel. Jimma University, Institute of Health has organized the event in coordinating diverse projects. Project offices those participated on the workshop: WHO-EHS, JUCAN, KOHFI, JU-CBMP, TIDRC, CDC-HIV and JEOC were the major ones. On this joint experience sharing workshop, heads of the offices have presented each project’s experience.
On the occasion Dr. Elias Ali, v/president for HI has made a speech on the workshop’s goal and the effort that has been made on knowledge and skills transfer through collaboration with international organizations. He added linking projects and working together to the betterment of community health service and to meet JU’s internationalization goal is mandatory. He added “as a result, including the International ones, about 81 active projects ought to need to work collaboratively to ensure EHS.
The Challenges and opportunities of the implementation of diverse projects has been presented by the head of the project offices on the workshop, which followed by the discussion and reflections. During the discussion participants reflected that compiling and summarizing researches findings and recommendation for policy makers to bring about change in the health sector.
On the discussion, it has been raised ideas like improving the relationship between senior and junior staff members, need based trainings, capacity building, media briefing about researches, the significance of mentorship programs, creating single database for research outputs to meet JU’s internationalization goal, compiling researches findings and recommendation for policy makers to bring about change in the health sector.
In the future such workshops, seminars, media platforms will be set to communicate the projects output and research findings to the local, national and international community.
