Delegates from the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia and Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Zhao Zhinyuan, visited Jimma University on December 10, 2022. Dr. Jemal Abafita, president of Jimma University, briefed the Ambassador on areas of pedagogy, learning, research and community engagement programs carried out by Jimma University and possible areas of partnership with the Chinese Embassy.
During the discussion, Ambassador Zhao Zhinyuan commented on strengthening Dr. Mei Gengnian Medical Students Scholarship scheme that benefits Jimma University students by helping them attain medical education in China. He also discussed establishing new collaborations with prestigious Chinese Universities in the future.
Furthermore, the Ambassador stated that the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia will maintain its relationship with Jimma University and promised to work closely with the University on students and staff exchanges, expert support, and collaborative research and partnerships.
