Australian Ambassador, Julia Niblett, made an official visit to Jimma Zone and also came to Jimma University.

Dr. Dereje Duguma, the State Minister for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Mengistu Bekele, the head of the Oromia Health Bureau, and the heads of the Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) also accompanied the Ambassador on her visit.

The purpose of the Ambassador’s visit was to see the ophthalmology services firsthand being carried out by the Department of Ophthalmology at Jimma University in partnership with the Australian Government and the Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF).

Ambassador Julia Niblett had the opportunity to witness the work of the ophthalmology services provided by neighboring hospitals through Jimma University. She stated that she was very happy with the activities she got to see and that the Australian government will continue to strengthen its partnership with Jimma University along with other universities in Australia. It was noted that research and community service sectors should be highlighted in order to continue facilitating a strong working partnership.
