About the department


Currently psychology department is one of the four departments under the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. It was established, as one of the departments under the Faculty of Education, in the year 2003(1995 E.C); & then under College of Social Sciences and Law until July, 2014.  The department has been running a BA and MA programs for regular and summer. In the past ten plus years more than 1300 students are graduated in the regular and in one batch extension programs from the department. The graduates are working in different regions and sectors on different fields; and many of them are MA & PhD students in Ethiopia and abroad.

Recently, the department has been launched seven postgraduate programs namely  M.A in counseling psychology, MA in  educational psychology in special emphasis on measurement and evaluation and MA in child and adolescent development,MA In social Psychology,MA in Child Care Education. In both levels, the department of psychology aimed to produce well equipped and trained professionals who applies principles, concepts, theories and practices of psychology and thereby meet the demands of governmental, nongovernmental, and private agencies; to carry out quality research on various psychological, educational and, social problems of the community and; to provide the necessary public services to individuals, institutions, and groups regarding problems and issues pertaining to the field of psychology. In order to do so, the needs of different resources and facilities are beyond doubt. Accordingly, to run the program,   psychology department outfitted itself with   qualified academicians with various academic statuses (4 associate professors, 5 PhD holders, four PhD candidates, 8 assistance professor and 6 MA holders) and specialties.
