Message from the Dean


Business and Economics College (BECO) was established in 1997, when the department of Accounting and Management were opened. Since its establishment, the college is dedicated to producing qualified and ethical graduates in the fields of accounting and finance, banking and finance, economics, management and hospitality and tourism management who can feed the national and international labor market need in their respective disciplines.

In order to accomplish its objectives, the college is also graduating master’s students in its regular, evening, weekend, programs mainly in the fields of Accounting and Finance, Project Management and Finance, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Public Management, Logistics and Transport Management, Banking and Finance, Developmental Economics, Policy Economics, and also the college has completed preparation to launch Masters in Financial Economics, Industrial Economics and Transport Economics. In 2010 the college has launched three PhD programs mainly PhD in Management, PhD in Financial Economics and PhD in Industrial Economics.

Apart from its compass in Jimma University, the college runs evening and weekend MBA program in collaboration with Alliance for Better Health (ABH), in a Public Private Partnership model. Starting from January, 2017, the college is also planning to launch Masters in Project Management and Finance in weekend and evening programs in collaboration with ABH Plc. This indicated the fact that the college devoted itself to respond to the training needs of business community and industry sector in the country in general and south west Ethiopia in Particular.

Apart from teaching and learning, the college staffs are engaged in conducting problem solving research and providing need based training and community services. To this end the college has a plan to establish free training and consultancy center and provide free training and consultancy service for those who are in need, and unable to pay for the service. To accomplish the objective, the BECO has secured an office from Jimma Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Associations.
Apart from national collaborations, the college has established links with NYENRODE New Business School of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Kangwan National University (South Korea). Moreover, the college plans to launch its journal “Ethiopian Journal of Business and Economics” in the next academic year. The college also aspires to open Entrepreneur Skill Development Center in the near future.

In order to smoothly run our teaching and learning, research and community services, the college has qualified and capable academic and administrative staffs.

To this end, we warmly welcome our students, colleagues and partners to guest, comment and support us in our effort towards producing sufficient and competent graduates who contribute their level best to economic development and nations building, provision of quality training and service to our society.
