ABOUT BECO
The College of Business and Economics (BECO) was established in 1997 with the inauguration of its programs of Accounting and Management, marking the genesis of a center committed to fostering intellectual rigor and professional excellence in business and economic disciplines. In September 2003, the College expanded its academic architecture by introducing the Division of Economics and the Department of Business Education which encompasses Marketing Management, Banking and Insurance, and Purchasing and supplies which commenced students’ enrollment in the same academic year. Since then, BECO has been offering undergraduate curricula in Accounting, Business Management, Economics, and Business Education, alongside diploma offerings in Business Management, Accounting, and Secretarial Science and Office Management. Later, the college discontinued its diploma-level programs and continued offering only undergraduate and higher-level degree programs.
Despite its relatively nascent history, the College has demonstrated exceptional dynamism and multifaceted advancement in teaching, research, and community engagement. Through the development of demand-driven undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, BECO has significantly enhanced equitable access to higher education. Presently, the College serves over 5,365 undergraduate scholars enrolled across regular, evening, weekend, and distance-learning modalities, in disciplines including Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Economics, Tourism and Hotel Management, and Management.
At the postgraduate echelon, the College cultivates more than 778 masters students through thirteen master’s programs, such as MA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, MBA, Master of Public Management (MPM), Executive MBA in Agribusiness, MSc in Accounting and Finance, MSc in Banking and Finance, MSc in Investment and Finance, MA in Hospitality and Tourism Management, MA in Project Management and Finance, and diverse MSc specializations in Economics, including Economic Policy Analysis, Development Economics, Industrial Economics, and Financial Economics. These offerings are delivered via regular, evening, weekend, and off-campus modalities; ensuring pedagogical flexibility and inclusivity. BECO also attracts scholars from five African nations: Benin, Ghana, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Puntland; this underscores the internationalization of its academic portfolio.
Furthermore, BECO administers six doctoral programs: PhD in Accounting, PhD in Management, PhD in Management with specialization in Human Resource Management and Marketing, PhD in Financial Economics, and PhD in Industrial Economics; currently mentoring more than 100 highly qualified doctoral candidates.
Through its comprehensive academic framework, the College continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the socioeconomic development of Ethiopia and the African continent, producing professionals and researchers in business, finance, and economics endowed with analytical acumen, research proficiency, and strategic problem-solving capabilities.
The College’s human capital encompasses 120 faculty members and 121 administrative and support personnel, collectively dedicated to delivering high-quality educational experiences and services.
