Background Information
Currently, the School is giving veterinary health services using the Veterinary Clinic which is located in the Campus College of agriculture and veterinary medicine. The clinic was established in 2004 as an important facility to support the teaching activity and to give animal health service to the community.
Core Objectives:   
  • to provide excellent facilities for teaching/research in clinical duties for Veterinary students of the school of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), and rendering of specialized services, such as, consultations, clinical and diagnostic services to the livestock owners, agro-allied and public health sectors, and the general public.
  • to honourably serve all animals and people as a team of veterinary professionals and students.
  • to Play an integral role in the progression of knowledge within the veterinary field, we are committed to expanding veterinary medicine to benefit both animals and society.
Services Provided:
  • General clinical service to  large and small animals ( diagnosis and treatment , consultancy)
  • Small Animal Clinic and Surgery
  • Large Animal Clinic and Surgery
  • Ambulatory Services and Consultancy
  • Radiographic (X-Ray) Services for small animals
  • Vaccination service
  • Diagnostic service upon request of costumers
  • Short term training upon costumer request for veterinary professional
Organizational Makeup:
  • The open air clinic lead by an experienced veterinarian who plan inputs and organize student activities in the clinic, he is accountable to the school head
  • There is one clerk, and one cleaner
  • The main man power for clinical service are the academic staffs and senior students
Achievements:    
  • Our clinic become the first choice by livestock owners, this is witnessed by an increment of the services we provide  from year to year
  • Currently we provide  different  clinical services  for a minimum of  95 cattle,  35 equines, 42  chickens and 12 small animals per week
  • Last year alone (2013)  our clinic able to address more than 4500 clinical cases  of different species of animals
  • Expanding our service to a distant places through ambulatory clinic service
  • Another important achievement is allocation of  budget for the construction of  veterinary  teaching hospital  by the university  up on the request of the school
Future Plan
The School will soon have Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The design has already been completed and it is under construction.
I.  The internal design of the hospital will include the following basic components: 
1.    A drainage/sewage system with septic tank
2.    Source of pressurized water (for cleaning)
3.    Source of electric power
4.    Animal restraining crushes, and examination tables
5.    Wards; cages and recovery rooms
6.    Externally built larriage or animal holding facilities
IL.    The hospital will be administratively structured in to the following departments and units

Facilities
At the present time there are five well equipped veterinary laboratories used for demonstration of practical sessions and conducting quality researches by staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Namely:
  • Anatomy, Embryology and Physiology Laboratory
  • Microbiology and Veterinary Public Health Laboratory
  • Parasitology, Pathology and Histology Laboratory
  • Surgery and Gynecology Laboratory
  • Research Laboratory for PhD and MSc Students
•    The school do have an open air clinic which  deliver clinical service to the community

There are different animal farms run by department of animal science  in the campus and outside that will play vital role for the teaching and learning processes of the School.
