Departments



Business and Economics College (BECO) was established in 1997, when the Department of Accounting and Management were opened. In September 2003, the College opened two other departments: the Department of Economics and the Department of Business Education, both of which have already accepted students in their respective fields in September 2003. Thus, the College runs its teaching activities at degree level in the following fields of studies: Accounting, Business Management, Economics and Business Education. At diploma level the following are run: Business Management, Accounting, and Secretarial Science and Office Management.

The College, though young in age, has made remarkable and multifarious progresses in training, research and service provision by opening need basedundergraduate and postgraduate programs and expanding access and equity to higher education to citizens. At present, more than 5000 undergraduate students are enrolled in its regular, evening, and distance education programs of Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Economics, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Business Management.

The college is also training more than 700 students in its eleven postgraduate programs; namely MA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Masters of Public Management (MPM), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) in Agribusiness, MSc in Accounting and Finance, MA in Project Management and Finance, MSc in Economics (Economic Policy Analysis, MSc in Development Economics, and MSC in Industrial Economics, MSc in Financial Economics, MSc in Banking and Finance through regular, evening, weekend, summer, and off-campus modalities. The college is taking students from five African countries (Benin, Ghana, Ruanda, South Sudan, and Punt Land), witnessing internalization of its programs. More overthe college is running three PhD programs mainly PhD in Management, PhD in Financial Economics and PhD in Industrial Economics and has three students in each program.

Hence, the college playing pivotal role in making valuable contribution for the overall development of Africa in general and the country in particular by producing professionals in the field of business, finance, and economics equipped with problem-solving research skills.

As far as its staffs are concerned, the college has 146 active academic staff and 164 administrative and supportive staffs engaged in different activities.

Furthermore, the college is rendering services in capacity building to various governmental and non-governmental organizations’ employees through its in-service and short-term trainings, engage in conducting problem solving research apart from the teaching and learning programs.
