Prof. Abebaw Gashaw started professional service after graduating with Diploma in Animal health in 1980 as a technical and laboratory assistant at Jimma institute of Agriculture Ethiopia. I have further training in Veterinary Medicine at Leipzig University and graduated with DVM. Then I joined again Jimma College of agriculture as a lecturer and served for six years as department head of Animal Science. In 1994 I joined George August University Goettingen, Germany, to pursue my master’s study on tropical animal health and after graduation served JU with the rank of assistant professor. In 2001 I joined again the same institute George August University Goettingen, Germany for my Ph.D. study in tropical animal health and completed it in 2004 and back to JU. In 2006 I was promoted to associate professor by considering my publication and service. In 2011 again I was promoted to full professor of tropical animal health considering my publication and service. Prof. Abebaw served Jimma University in different capacities and administrative positions such as head of the department, continuing education program coordinator, Registrar, Academic program officer, and finally as Vice president for academic and research affairs of Jimma University. Now I am working in the school of veterinary medicine at Jimma University as a clinical medicine team leader, teaching, and research staff. In my academic life, I have published 42 publications in reputable journals and am also an author of one reference book.
Professionally, I have gained expertise in several scopes of science; veterinary medicine, animal production and management, ecology and environment protection, organizational leadership and management, one health, animal welfare, and project planning and monitoring during my educational development in undergraduate, masters, doctoral studies, and attended different pieces of training and workshops in different countries and Ethiopia. In addition, I have impeccable organizational skills, listening capability, and possess excellent verbal and written communication abilities. In the course of my tenure at the university, I have managed a number of donor-funded projects (World Bank, NUFFIC, DAAD) and produced reports and proceedings. I have also good computer skills with the ability to work in different software programs.
