Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (JUCAVM) was established in 1952 as Jimma Agricultural Technical School (JATS) in collaboration with Oklahoma State University. In 1999 Jimma College of Agriculture (JCA) amalgamated with Jimma Institute of Health Sciences (JIH; founded in 1983) as co-founders of Jimma University. JUCAVM is dedicated to advancing agricultural development through training, knowledge generation, and service delivery in Ethiopia and beyond. The college trains at graduate and undergraduate levels in broad areas of agriculture and veterinary medicine. Currently, JUCAVM runs over 10 bachelor’s programs, 24 master’s programs, and 8 Ph.D. programs. It has over 4000 student population, over 200 academic and over 550 administrative staff. It runs educational programs in regular, Summer/winter programs, in-service, weekend, distance, and on-location programs. We have a labor market and industry-oriented flexible programs. JUCAVM has a green and beautiful campus with smart classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, greenhouses, and farms. We collaborate with local, regional, and international organizations. We hosted over 10 donor-funded projects and partnered with numerous international institutions for teaching, research, and community services. Some of our international partners are from the USA, Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Germany, South Korea, China, Austria, Nigeria, Benin Republic, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, etc. The college upholds the values of educational relevance, transparency, social accountability, gender sensitivity, equity, community participation, and empowerment.  It aspires to be one of the premier agricultural and veterinary medicine institutes in Africa and renowned in the world thereby contributing its share to the realization of Jimma University’s vision by 2030.  Our educational philosophy is “We are in the Community” where we engage the community in our training programs, research activities, and community services. JUCAVM consists of six departments focused on agricultural fields and one school. These include Horticulture and Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness Management, Rural Development & Agricultural Extension, Food Science and Postharvest Technology, as well as the School of Veterinary Medicine.
