Polio Antenna

Welcome to Polio Antenna: Responsible AI for Improving Polio Pandemic Surveillance Sensitivity (RAPPS)

At RAPPS, we are dedicated to transforming global health through the power of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) while promoting equity, inclusion, and local empowerment. Our initiative is focuses on improving polio surveillance sensitivity in regions most vulnerable to the disease. We believe that innovation must serve all communities, especially those that have been historically underserved and underrepresented. Through a decolonized approach, RAPPS prioritizes local data, knowledge, and capacity building, ensuring that the solutions we develop are not only technologically advanced but also culturally relevant and sustainable. By fostering community participation and ownership, we create AI tools that respect local contexts and address pressing public health needs paving the way for a world free from polio. Our Vision

We envision a world where cutting-edge technology helps eliminate polio by making disease surveillance more accurate, efficient, and inclusive, especially for remote and underserved populations.

Our Mission

RAPPS aims to enhance polio surveillance through AI solutions that respect the cultural and social dynamics of the communities they serve. By focusing on local data and expertise, we promote responsible innovation that leads to sustainable change.

Our Objectives

  • AI-Driven Real-Time Data Collection
Harnessing AI to collect acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) data from medical institutions in real time, providing faster insights and recommending effective interventions.
  • Enhanced Surveillance Tools
Developing innovative AFP surveillance tools that improve the quality of polio surveillance and supervision, making data collection more efficient and reliable.
  • Accelerating Polio Detection
With our AI tools, we aim to speed up the detection of polio cases, reducing the need for frequent in-person visits by public health officers to health institutions.
  • Promoting Gender Equality
Our project promotes gender mainstreaming by integrating sex-segregated data analysis, which advances equality and ensures that gender-specific health needs are addressed.
  • Community Empowerment & Ownership
We focus on creating responsible AI tools that enable active community participation, fostering a sense of ownership and involvement in disease surveillance efforts.
  • Addressing Inaccessibility
By targeting neglected, remote, and challenging communities, our surveillance methods are designed to overcome barriers of inaccessibility, ensuring that no population is left behind.
  • Decolonized Knowledge Transfer
Through a decolonized approach, we prioritize tangible knowledge transfer and capacity building, ensuring that local stakeholders play a central role in the fight against polio.
