The objectives of postgraduate training in Entomology are to:

Produce well qualified and competent graduates having strong theoretical knowledge, practical skills and attitude to undertake training, research and extension/service in entomology and related fields.
- Generate technologies and knowledge in different fields of entomology that would help improve the management of agricultural pests, insect vectors of animal diseases and for the improvement of honeybees and silkworms products in the country through problem oriented and demand driven research.
The applicants for Master of Science in Entomology are thought to fulfill the following criteria: a pass in Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in agriculture or Plant Science or Horticulture or Forestry or natural resources management or Post-harvest management or DVM or Animal Science or Biology or other related fields from accredited higher learning institutions/deemed universities, with cumulative grade point average of 2.00 out of four or its equivalent. In addition, the applicants are entailed to pass an entrance examination prepared by JUCAVM.
Graduate profile
Upon completion of the program the graduates are expected to acquire knowledge and practical skills required to:
- Engage in teaching, research and community outreach activities in the field of entomology at various levels (private sectors, government institutions, NGOs, etc)
- Generate and/or adopt appropriate technologies of insect and other arthropod pests management through research;
- Advise decision makers in formulating agricultural policies of the country related to entomology;
- Identify the economic importance of arthropods/insects and come up with appropriate methods of management of their pests and improvement of products from beneficial; and
- Job creators of their own enterprises in the area of apiculture, sericulture and natural enemies/bio-agents production.
Graduation requirement
Students must take minimum credit hours set by the university and must have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 and successfully defend their thesis. No “C” grade in any course(s) taken.
