Director’s Message

As Agribusiness & Leadership Institute (ABLI) Director, I am pleased to welcome you all prospective trainees, students, partners and other website visitors including researchers, guests, alumni and community members. ABLI started in 2019, with the main rationale for strategic leadership, business management and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to support the process of agriculture-led structural transformation of the economy.

ABLI will mobilize and develop the expertise to address the strategic leadership, business management, entrepreneurial and technical skills development needs of current and future leaders. In doing so, it must become a bridge to connect the University’s expertise oriented towards strategic leadership, business management, entrepreneurial and technical skills development with private sector actors in agriculture through to the agro-processing sector. The bridge must be a mechanism that opens up university expertise, capabilities, scientific and technical infrastructure for application in agricultural value chains.

The institute is designed to deliver its support together with private sector. This collaborative engagement with the private sector must stimulate the development and delivery of demand-led curriculum innovation embodied in short, high-impact courses; the design and delivery of value-added services; and targeted research that seeks to address problems in practice. In this way, ABLI will provide intellectual leadership in the business of agricultural value chain transformation.

Furthermore, the institute has an anticipated value for the university and sector stakeholders. For the university, it establish a mechanism to collaborate closely with actors in agricultural value chains, as an expression of its philosophy “we are in the community”. For private sector stakeholders, institute enables the sector to draw on the intellectual assets of the University to address challenges in the transformation of the sector. As a bridge into the University, ABLI enable private sector stakeholders to influence the level of strategic leadership, business management and entrepreneurial skills for the industry.

In order to smoothly run our training, the institute has qualified and capable academic and administrative staffs from different colleges in Jimma University In general and Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, and Business & Economics Colleges In particular.

To this end, we warmly welcome our trainees, colleagues and partners to comment and support us in our effort towards producing sufficient and competent professional who contribute their level best to economic development and nations building, provision of quality management and leadership to our society.

Sincerely,
