World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims Commemorated in Jimma

Jimma held events to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, themed “Remember, Support, and Act.”

Professor Ahmed Zeinudin, Chief Executive Director of Jimma Medical Center, emphasized that road traffic crashes claim over a million lives annually, causing devastating effects on families and communities. He highlighted the importance of raising awareness about the prevent ability of these tragedies.

Dr. Getachew Tilahun, Director of the Jimma University Research Centre for Road and Transport Safety, outlined the day’s objectives.

He urged participants to honor those killed or injured on the roads, recognize the vital work of emergency service providers, advocate for improved support for victims and their families, and promote evidence-based strategies to prevent future incidents.

Participants included university officials, health professionals, Red Cross representatives, local government leaders, road traffic victims and their families, as well as students and teachers from local schools.
