The University–Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer (UIL&TT) Office is one of the key directorate offices under the Vice President for Research and Partnership at Jimma University. The Office serves as a strategic platform for strengthening collaboration among the University, industry, government, and other stakeholders to promote innovation, technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and the commercialization of research outputs.
Through transparent, accountable, and collaborative engagement with stakeholders, the UIL&TT Office works to strengthen the University’s innovation ecosystem, foster technology-based partnerships, facilitate the transfer and commercialization of technologies, and contribute to Ethiopia’s industrial development and economic transformation.
Mandates of the Office:
- Establishing formal relationships with Industries and communities
- Support the generation and identification of new knowledge, technologies, and innovations developed by the academic staff and students of Jimma University.
- Facilitate the effective and efficient transfer of knowledge, technologies, and innovations from Jimma University to industry and other users for the benefit of society.
- Promote national, regional, and local economic development through university–industry collaboration, innovation, and technology transfer.
- Support colleges, faculties, institutes, and other academic units in developing, improving, adapting, and disseminating new and modified technologies.
- Coordinate and facilitate linkage activities between Jimma University, colleges, institutes, and TVET institutions that serve as technology replication and dissemination partners.
- Supporting of technology business incubation center both in capacity building and Infrastructure
- Create opportunities for academic staff and students to gain practical experience in manufacturing and service industries, while facilitating the participation of industry experts in the research, training, and teaching activities of Jimma University.
- Promote the application of knowledge and research generated by Jimma University to improve the manufacturing and service sectors through technology development, learning, adoption, adaptation, and dissemination.
- Staff development in Technology Transfer, Incubation Center, Intellectual right policy dissemination.
