Jimma University recently held a successful Data Collectors Training and the Kick-Off Meeting for the TRAC-DRTB project, titled “Tracking Acquired Drug Resistance in MDR-TB Patients Receiving Bedaquiline-Based All-Oral Shorter Regimens: An Observational Cohort Study (TRAC-DRTB).” The event took place from April 27 to 28, 2026, at the BRICS Hall, Jimma University.
The training session gathered a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including nurses, general practitioners, clinicians, and laboratory specialists from fifteen MDR-TB Treatment Initiating Centers and six TB Culture and Drug Susceptibility Testing laboratories throughout Ethiopia. The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ skills in study implementation, clinical and laboratory data collection, and REDCap-based data management.
The TRAC-DRTB project is funded by GSK-Africa Open Lab and is led by Dr. Mulualem Tadesse, who serves as the Principal Investigator. He is supported by Prof. Gemeda Abebe at the Mycobacteriology Research Center, Jimma University.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in addressing drug resistance in MDR-TB patients and underscores Jimma University’s commitment to advancing research and healthcare in Ethiopia.
