The one-week-long Research and Innovation Week Conference, under the theme “Building Bridges Through Research and Innovation,” that commenced on January 27, 2025, ended today.
Thirty papers covering different scientific topics and eighteen posters were presented in four parallel sessions. All the presentations were followed by actively engaging discussions and scientific arguments, as well as inquiries raised about the issues presented, seeking clarification or exploring further details on the topics discussed.
Closing remarks were made by Professor Gemechis File, Vice President for Business and Administration at Jimma University. In his speech, Professor Gemechis reminded the participants about the Community Day of January 28, 2025, which he mentioned as a powerful reminder of the strength that lies in partnership; Innovation Day of January 29, 2025, during which he said we witnessed the incredible talent and creativity of our students; and the Conference Days, January 30 and 31, 2025, when we created a platform for researchers from various disciplines to share their findings under the theme “Harnessing 21st Century Technological Advances in Ethiopian Higher Education.”
Professor Gemechis strictly highlighted that the momentum created the ideas shared, the collaborations forged, and the innovations showcased this week—should be carried forward. He concluded his speech by saying,
Together, we have the power to transform higher education in Ethiopia, making it more accessible, innovative, and responsive to the needs of our communities..
