The Swiss-GOSTAR Bike Tour team visited the Orthopedics and Trauma Department at Jimma Medical Centre, including the new operation theatre equipped through their support.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Jemal Abafita, President of Jimma University, highlighted that Jimma University is one of the largest universities in the country, actively collaborating with partners to address community health challenges. He expressed gratitude to the GOSTAR Foundation bike tour team for their impactful contributions to improving the health and quality of life for patients in the Orthopedics and Trauma Department.
During the event, Professor Netsanet Workineh, head of the Oromia Regional State Health Bureau, noted that the partnership between GOSTAR Foundation and Jimma University has spanned 25 years, successfully achieving key health service objectives. She emphasized that the GOSTAR Foundation bike tour team has contributed one million euros to the Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery Care Unit, commending their efforts.
Professor Ahmed Zeinudin, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Health at Jimma University, acknowledged the significant role of the GOSTAR Foundation from Switzerland in enhancing Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery services at the medical center. He pointed out that the hospital serves as a critical healthcare resource for over 20 million people in southwestern Ethiopia.
At the conclusion of the event, the GOSTAR excellency Award was presented to individuals who contributed to the establishment and ongoing improvement of the Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery Care Unit.
Jimma University also issued the presidenital award to Dr.Jörg (Pele) Peltzer which is the top most prestigious award of Jimma University, in recgnition of his significant contribution and service to the local community and the people of Ethiopia at large, and the outstanding achievements
