Welcome to the College of Social Sciences and Humanities!
As the Vice Dean, it is my great pleasure to introduce you to our college, which is a hub of intellectual growth, academic excellence, innovative research, and community service. Located in the main campus of Jimma University, our college has 11 departments, 2 schools, and 8 coordinating offices currently. We are highly committed to fostering an educational environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning. Our academic programs are carefully designed to address the evolving needs of Ethiopian society and beyond by producing high caliber professionals. Our college is highly committed to excel in three core areas, viz. teaching-learning, research, and community service, thereby fulfilling Jimma University’s philosophy of community-based education and problem-oriented learning.
To this end, our college offers a wide range of programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We proudly provide 13 Bachelor of Arts (BA) programs and 5 Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programs, each tailored to nurture the minds of future professionals and educators. At the postgraduate level, we offer 24 Master’s (MA) programs and 11 PhD programs across diverse disciplines, designed to advance specialized knowledge and foster cutting-edge research. Our staff members are highly dedicated and disciplined scholars, researchers, and practitioners who work closely with students to ensure they are equipped with the tools necessary for success. We encourage collaboration between our departments, schools, and external partners to ensure that the knowledge generated within our college has a tangible impact on society. Furthermore, our dedicated coordinating offices play an indispensable role in facilitating and ensuring the smooth operation of academic programs, research, community service, student services and welfare, and administrative support. We are committed to maintaining high standards such as academic integrity, cooperation, accountability, responsibility, fairness, transparency, and serving and satisfying the interest of internal and external customers.
