Background information

The Coordinating Office of Teacher Education Programs was launched in 2014 E.C.  

It coordinates two prestigious programs namely Bachelor of Education B.Ed and Doctor of education (DED) with five departments owning the programs: Afan Oromo, Amhari, English, Geography and History.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed.) in the above mentioned departments is an undergraduate program that prepares students to become professional teachers and educators. It provides knowledge in teaching methods, educational psychology, curriculum development, and classroom management. Graduates are equipped with the skills to teach effectively, promote learning, and contribute to the improvement of educational systems in schools and communities.

The Doctor of education (DED) is an advanced professional degree designed for educational leaders, researchers, and policymakers. It focuses on applying research and theory to solve real-world problems in education. Graduates are prepared to lead educational institutions, develop policies, improve teaching practices, and contribute to educational reform and innovation.

Major tasks /objectives

The office is dedicated to:

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of practicum courses for B.Ed students
  • Ensure that teacher education programs are effectively managed and aligned with national standards, and meet quality requirements.
  • Facilitate collaboration among departments, and School communities for practical field works
  • Assess and follow up DED candidates’ status and other related issues
