New Laboratory Equipment Installed Under METODIC Project to Strengthen Teaching and Research at Jimma Institute of Technology, Jimma University

Following the successful procurement, delivery, and installation of laboratory equipment under the METODIC Project, training was conducted on March 5–6 to enable utilization of the equipment. The installation of the new equipment represents a significant milestone in strengthening laboratory capacity and plays an important role in improving both teaching and research. By expanding opportunities for hands-on learning and advanced experimentation, the equipment is expected to support high-quality instruction and foster innovative research outputs.

To familiarize users with the new facilities, a demonstration and awareness session was organized for academic staff, students, and other stakeholders. During the session, the Digital Soxhlet Extraction System was demonstrated for solvent extraction processes, particularly relevant for biomass, textile, and environmental sample analysis. The Microwave Reactor was also presented for rapid synthesis, reaction optimization, and advanced research applications. Participants actively engaged in discussions on integrating the equipment into coursework and research activities, and guidance was provided on the safe and effective operation of both systems. The session generated strong interest among participants and encouraged collaborative discussions on expanding research opportunities.

The newly installed equipment is now being integrated into core academic and research activities. It supports laboratory courses and practical sessions, enhances undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, and contributes to Community-Based Education (CBE) activities aligned with real-world problem solving. These developments are expected to strengthen experiential learning, improve research quality, and enhance the institution’s contribution to community-oriented innovation and problem solving.
