Jimma University, in partnership with the Global Knowledge Exchange Network (GKEN), successfully hosted the second edition of its “Research Today” (RT) Seminar Series, reinforcing its role as a premier hub for international academic exchange. The hybrid event connected over 100 participants worldwide, facilitating a dynamic dialogue on different research topics.
The seminar was inaugurated by University President Dr. Jemal Abafita, who underscored the transformative power of collaborative partnerships in driving academic progress. In his opening address, Dr. Jemal stated, “Our journey is profoundly enriched by strategic alliances with GKEN and the invaluable contributions of our diaspora community,” positioning the RT series as a vital platform for uniting and inspiring researchers across geographical and disciplinary boundaries.
The event featured presentations from a distinguished panel of scholars. Professor Amare Desta, a renowned expert in Information and Knowledge Management with over 25 years of experience at leading UK universities, kicked off the session with his presentation on “Critical Success Factors for a Successful Doctoral Research Journey,” providing crucial guidance for the next generation of academics. Dr. Elfneh Bariso, a Senior Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University, then shared his research on “Assessment for Learning Strategies among Secondary School Teachers in the Guji Zone, Ethiopia.”
The focus then shifted to a critical public health challenge with a presentation by Dr. Selam Bogale, an internist and infectious disease fellow from Addis Ababa University. Dr. Bogale presented compelling findings from the SAMRY study, revealing an “Alarming Rate of Carbapenemase Carriage in Addis Ababa,” which underscored his specialized knowledge in combating antimicrobial resistance.
A vibrant question-and-answer session followed, enabling deep engagement and intellectual exchange between the global audience and the speakers. Concluding the event, Jimma University extended its sincere appreciation to all presenters and participants for their role in a highly productive seminar, celebrating the collective effort to leverage shared knowledge in addressing the world’s most complex challenges.
