Jimma University participated in the #MedEDAfrica Consortium of Medical Schools in Africa, which took place at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from July 6 to 8, 2026. This event gathered prominent medical schools, educators, researchers, and policymakers from across the continent to exchange innovative ideas regarding medical education, research, and healthcare delivery.
During the exhibition, Jimma University showcased several of its flagship initiatives that establish its leadership in medical education and community engagement. Among the most popular exhibits were the Community-Based Education (CBE) program, renowned for its integration of education and community service; the Eye Bank, highlighting the University’s commitment to enhancing ophthalmic care and corneal transplantation; and the Pediatric Physiotherapy program, which demonstrates innovative rehabilitation services and training. These displays garnered significant interest from attendees, who praised Jimma University’s practical and community-focused approach to health professions education.The delegation from Jimma University was led by Prof. Ahmed Zeynudin, Chief Executive Director, and Dr. Kedir Negesso, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. They engaged with participants by presenting the University’s distinctive educational philosophy, notable achievements, and strategic vision for advancing medical education across Africa. The exhibition was skillfully coordinated by Dr. Daniel Delessa and Dr. Hawi Teshale, who ensured that visitors had an engaging and informative experience with Jimma University’s innovative programs.
In recognition of its active involvement, Jimma University received a Certificate of Participation, further solidifying its reputation as a center of excellence in medical education, research, innovation, and community service.
