Jimma University has been selected by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to host the In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme for its Master of Science in Environmental Health. The programme is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and represents a significant investment in Ethiopia’s higher education sector.
The scholarship programme will support three cohorts of students from 2027 to 2029, with each cohort lasting 24 months. Scholarships will cover essential costs including tuition, stipends, research expenses, travel, and insurance. This comprehensive funding underscores Germany’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives in Ethiopia.
The programme is designed to train future academics, researchers, and development professionals who will play a vital role in addressing pressing developmental challenges in Ethiopia and across Africa.
Enrolling both Ethiopian students and those from other African nations, Jimma University is positioned to become a central training hub for African professionals, enhancing its reputation on the continent.
The DAAD’s funding illustrates a significant international investment in Ethiopian postgraduate education, showcasing the potential for collaborative growth in academia. The focus on Environmental Health aligns with critical national priorities related to public health, sanitation, environmental protection, and climate resilience.
