Jimma University Medical Center Launches New Cancer Treatment Technology with Global Support.

Jimma University Medical Center has launched a new image-guided HDR brachytherapy system, marking a major step forward for cancer treatment in Ethiopia. This initiative is supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and aims to improve care for cancer patients in the region.

The installation and training for the new brachytherapy system were carried out by Radiating Hope (the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to radiation oncology worldwide). Dr. Brandon Fisher and his team from the United States provided crucial training and support during their recent visit to the Jimma University Oncology Unit, ensuring that staff could effectively use the new system.

During their time at the university, the Radiating Hope team met with Jimma University President Dr. Jemal Abafita to discuss further support and collaboration for cancer care.

Dr. Jemal thanked the Radiating Hope team for their training and efforts to secure important cancer treatment equipment. He also praised the oncology unit staff for their hard work in raising funds and obtaining donations from the IAEA.

During the discussion with the president, the team from Radiating Hope expressed their commitment to returning to Jimma University in the future. They also promised to provide additional support and resources while continuing to collaborate closely with the oncology staff.
