Jimma University Library successfully hosted a two-day training program aimed at enhancing the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research and education. The training focused on promoting research quality and integrity through the use of plagiarism detection tools, as well as exploring scholarly communication and access models in academic publishing.
The event gathered professional librarians, postgraduate students, research coordinators, and journal editors from across the university, providing participants with valuable insights into responsible AI integration in academic work. Attendees learned effective methods for maintaining originality and credibility in research outputs, alongside current trends in open access and scholarly publishing models.
Dr. Tadese Habtamu, Academic Vice President of Jimma University, officially opened the program, highlighting the significance of ethical research practices in today’s digital landscape. The closing session was led by Dr. Zerihun Assefa, a delegate from the Research and Partnership Vice President’s office, who reiterated the transformative role of digital tools in enhancing academic excellence.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Adisalem Guluma, Director of the Library System at Jimma University, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the training’s success. She acknowledged the hard work and dedication of everyone involved—from planning teams to facilitators and participants. Mrs. Adisalem also extended her appreciation to the offices of the Research and Partnership Vice President and the Academic Vice President for their unwavering support in facilitating and promoting the event.
