Jimma University, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, hosted a Western branch Industry Mapping Training and Discussion Forum. The event aimed to map regional industries and strengthen university-industry linkages, fostering a more robust educational framework.
The forum was officially inaugurated by Prof. Muluemebet Abera, Vice President for Research and Partnerships at Jimma University. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the vital role of industry mapping in promoting collaboration among universities. Prof. Mulumbet highlighted how this tool enables institutions to identify local industries, assess industry-driven training needs, monitor technology trends, and cultivate sustainable partnerships under the Higher Education, Training and Research, and Industry Linkage (HETRIIL) framework.
A representative from the Ministry of Education demonstrated the newly developed industry mapping software, outlining its benefits and potential impact on the educational landscape. Participants engaged in fruitful discussions aimed at refining and updating the tools presented during the training.
Dr. Tefera Mekonnen, Director of University–Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer at Jimma University, shared key accomplishments of the university and outlined future strategies for the HETRIIL initiative. His insights underscored the importance of aligning academic programs with industry needs to enhance employability and innovation.
The training concluded with a commitment from regional universities to convene monthly meetings to identify key potential industries. They agreed to develop proposals under the HETRIIL framework for resource sharing and to provide feedback to the Ministry of Education on unresolved regional issues.
