The METODIC project, a significant international initiative supported by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program. Launched in November 2024, this project places JU at the forefront of educational innovation in sustainability and the circular economy within East Africa’s textile industry.
Funded under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) strand, METODIC brings together a powerful consortium that includes Jimma University, academic partners from Greece and Belgium, other East African universities, and a Greek industry consultancy. The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance the capacity of African universities to foster sustainable change in a crucial economic sector.
At Jimma University, the project is already catalyzing significant activities aimed at delivering real benefits for students, faculty, and the local textile industry. Key initiatives currently in progress include: preparing a blended bachelor’s course, planning Collaboration Centers to connect academia with industry, and initiating mobility schemes that align education with global sustainability
The METODIC project is strategically designed to achieve several key objectives: significantly improving the knowledge and employability of JU students, fostering lasting partnerships between the university and the textile industry, and enhancing Jimma University’s international standing as a center of excellence in sustainable development.
