On August 9, 2025, Jimma University (JU) and Hubei University of Technology (HUBI) in China formalized a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Wuhan, marking a major milestone in international academic collaboration. The agreement was signed by Dr. Jemal Abafita, President of Jimma University, and Prof. Song Xiaochun, President of Hubei University of Technology.
This six-year partnership aims to enhance collaboration across various areas, including joint undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs; faculty and student exchanges; collaborative research initiatives; the establishment of joint laboratories; as well as projects focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer.
Dr. Jemal Abafita emphasized that the MoU represents the beginning of a new era of academic and cultural synergy, stating: “This agreement not only unites JU and HUBI but also creates a bridge between Ethiopia and China through shared knowledge, innovation, and educational excellence.”
