Jimma University’s College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, in partnership with Brooke Ethiopia, hosted a two-day clinical skills event on March 27 and 28 aimed at enhancing practical veterinary education.
The first day featured the Quarterly Student-to-Student Integration CSL Open Days, where students from all year batches engaged in peer-to-peer learning. The Animal Welfare Club delivered a report and led an awareness creation program on animal welfare.
The second day showcased the Annual Vet Olympics, a skills competition where students demonstrated expertise in animal handling, diagnostics, and surgical techniques. Brooke Ethiopia provided awards to top performers.
Dr. Mekonen Addis, Head of the Veterinary School, emphasized the importance of the Clinical Skills Lab: “Our goal is to provide a hands-on learning environment where students gain confidence, competence, and readiness for professional practice.”
The longstanding partnership between Brooke Ethiopia and Jimma University has established a Clinical Skills Laboratory and an Open-Air Veterinary Clinic, serving both academic training and community service. Beyond campus, Brooke Ethiopia works in the Dedo and Kersa woredas, promoting livestock health, husbandry practices, and veterinary access.
The collaboration supports rural livelihoods and the agricultural economy while producing skilled graduates ready to address sector challenges.
