Grand Theme: Reimagining Oromo Knowledge Systems for Digital Futures: Epistemic Justice, Language, Arts, and Culture in the Era of Digital Transformation

Conference Overview

The 6th International Oromo Studies Conference marks ten years of the Institute of Oromo Studies (IOS) and convenes scholars, practitioners, technologists, artists, youth innovators, and policymakers to critically engage Oromo knowledge systems in the context of digital transformation. As digital technologies increasingly shape knowledge production, language use, cultural expression, and heritage preservation, the conference foregrounds epistemic justice, addressing whose knowledge is represented, who governs digital infrastructures, and how indigenous knowledge systems can shape ethical and inclusive digital futures.

The conference provides an interdisciplinary platform to examine the future of Oromo language, arts, culture, and indigenous knowledge within emerging technological environments while advancing linguistic equity, cultural sustainability, and intergenerational knowledge continuity.
