MSc in Environmental Science and Technology
It is a two years MSc degree programme. The goal of this MSc programme is to produce high calibre Environmental Science and Technology professionals that can manage, train and conduct basic and applied research so as to respond to the prevailing and/or emerging environmental problems in the nation. The programme mainly focuses in pollution prevention and control, advanced water and waste treatment, environmental impact assessment, cleaner production and green chemistry, and ecological engineering. Zero waste strategies and innovation for sustainability are the main components in the SDG era where this master programme largely focuses. For details please download and see the curriculum.
Programme objectives
- To produce professionals who are able to develop and use appropriate technology relevant to existing situation of Ethiopia
- To produce professionals that can respond to existing and emerging environmental issues at different sectors
- To produce professionals who can involve in environmental policy and decision making system at various levels
- To produce professionals that are able to undertake basic and applied researches and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
- To produce professionals that will ensure sustainable development in the nation
- To produce professionals who will work in different stakeholders
Eligibility
Applicants to MSc of Environmental Science and Technology should have BSc in and should pass the entrance exam:
- Environmental Health/Science
- Environmental Engineering
- Biology and Chemistry; and
- Agricultural Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Geography, Demography, physics and other health related fields
Admission criteria will be as per the rules and regulations of JU graduate study program.
Duration of the program
The training will be given for two years. If a candidate is failed to finish his thesis in two years, he/she will be given one more year to accomplish the remaining courses. Otherwise the rules and regulations of the university will be strictly applied
Graduate profile
Upon completion of the 2 years course program in EST, the graduate is expected to work as:
- Water and sanitation technologist
- Solid and liquid waste treatment/ management technologist
- Ecologist and Environmental conservationist
- Environmental impact assessment specialist
- Educator and researcher
- Environmental policy and Environmental law consultant
- Project manager for Environment and public health related programs
Graduation requirements
- A graduate student must sustain a minimum CGPA of 3.00 at the end the study period.
- A graduate must obtain a maximum of one C grade in non-specialty courses as well as in CBTP, DTTP and Graduating thesis.
- Other rules and regulations of the University will be applied.
