Office Description

The Medicine and Public Health Officer is a leading excellence in Medical and Public Health Education, Research, and Community Service.
The main academic and administrative center for Jimma University’s very important health sciences programs is under the School of Medicine and Public Health. Our office, which operates under the faculty of health and medical sciences which is overall led by institute of health, is committed to oversee, facilitate and coordinate the smooth provision of integrated, problem-focused, community-based medical and public health education.
We act as the main point of contact for students, instructors, the larger university administration, and related teaching hospitals and community health facilities. Our office is working hard to provide the best possible training for aspiring doctors and public health workers who are capable, caring, and dedicated to meet Ethiopia’s and other countries who want them for their health needs, with a particular emphasis on marginalized communities.

In alignment with the vision of Jimma University, we aspire to lead, coordinate and facilitate medical and public health education for its excellence that produces: Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator, Leader & Manager, Health Advocate, Scholar, Professionally and Socially accountable graduates. In keeping with Jimma University’s core values, we lead and integrate seeking to combine cutting-edge instruction, important research, and meaningful community service to enhance health outcomes and promote health equity. We aim to integrate innovative teaching, relevant research, and impactful community service to improve health outcomes and advance health equity, in line with Jimma University’s founding principles.

Mission

We strive to develop highly competent medical and public health professionals who effectively respond to community health needs through evidence-based practice, excellence in service delivery, and innovative, solution-oriented research.

♦ Academic Excellence: to oversee and manage a comprehensive curriculum which is outcome based that integrates clinical skills, public health concepts, and fundamental medical sciences.

♦ Student Development: To provide comprehensive academic advising, support services, and professional development opportunities for all undergraduate students in our programs.

♦ Quality Assurance: To monitor and evaluate program delivery continuously, ensuring alignment with national guidelines and international best practices.

♦ Community Integration: To facilitate and strengthen the community-based training components that is the hallmark of Jimma University’s approach.

♦ Stakeholder Collaboration: To effectively coordinate with teaching and clinical trainings, and the sites, the Ministry of Health and its subordinating stakeholders at the Regional, Zonal, Woreda and Kebele label, and other collaborating partners to enhance the learning environment and graduate readiness.
