On March 20 and 21, 2025, Jimma University hosted an important grant management workshop in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa. The two-day event aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of academic staff in effective grant management practices.
The workshop was inaugurated by Naomi C. Fellows, Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy, and Dr. Jemal Abafita, President of Jimma University. Their opening remarks set a positive tone for the sessions that followed, emphasizing the critical role of grant management in advancing educational and research initiatives.
The training featured three renowned US based professors and Fulbright Scholars: Dr. Birhanu Eshete (University of Michigan), Prof. Solomon Bililign (North Carolina A&T State University) and Dr. Nasser Bogale (Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in PA). We had also professor Zerihun Woldu from the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences as part of the team of trainers of the program.
Participants engaged in comprehensive sessions that covered various aspects of grant management. The hands-on training provided valuable insights and practical tools that academic staff can apply to their future projects.
In a separate engagement, Naomi C. Fellows held discussions with Jimma University officials and heads of various departments. Topics included university autonomy, leadership, and strategies for effective grant management.
The workshop not only provided essential training but also strengthened the partnership between Jimma University and the U.S. Embassy, paving the way for future collaborations aimed at enhancing higher education in Ethiopia.
The University community expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from esteemed experts and looks forward to applying the knowledge gained in their respective fields.
