Enhancing Academic Writing and Peace Education: British Academy Workshop at Jimma University

A three-day International Writing Workshop organized by the British Academy took place at Jimma University, marking the launch of a two-year initiative designed to improve the academic writing, publishing, and peace education skills of early-career researchers in Ethiopia.

Entitled “Building Capacity for Early Career Researchers in Ethiopia: Enhancing Academic Writing, Publishing, and Education for Peace,” this workshop is funded by the British Academy and co-hosted by Jimma University and Coventry University in the UK. The initiative aims to leverage a well-established network of scholars in peace and conflict studies to deliver comprehensive and context-sensitive training.

Dr. Ameyu Godesso, an Associate Professor of Sociology at Jimma University specializing in peace and conflict studies, opened the workshop. The project is spearheaded by Dr. Miho Taka from Coventry University’s Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations, who brings significant expertise in peacebuilding, natural resource governance, and sub-Saharan African studies.

The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Zerihun Assefa, Delegate of the Vice President for Research and Partnership at Jimma University. In her opening remarks, Dr. Miho Taka welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the workshop’s agenda, focusing on ‘Developing Journal Papers’ to equip researchers with essential skills for publishing in international journals.

The training sessions are being conducted by a team of experts from both institutions, including Dr. Miho Taka, Dr. Ezechiel Sentama, Professor Hazel Barrett, and Dr. Michaelina Jakala from Coventry University, alongside Dr. Ameyu Godesso from Jimma University.
