In October 2025, Jimma University partnered with Heineken Ethiopia to promote community welfare in Bedele City, completing revenue-generating projects valued at over 7 million birr. These initiatives, developed from a community needs assessment, aim to empower more than 22 low-income households through dairy cattle and poultry ventures.
The project launch was attended by key figures, including Dr. Jemal Abafita, President of Jimma University, and Mr. Bart De. Keninck, CEO of Heineken Ethiopia, alongside local officials and community leaders.
During the ceremony, Dr. Jemal highlighted the university’s commitment to community service, encapsulated in their motto “We Are in Community,” and thanked Heineken Ethiopia for their financial support. Mayor Tsegaye Teshome also expressed gratitude on behalf of Heineken Ethiopia, acknowledging the hard work of Jimma University’s researchers and experts in making the project a success. This collaboration exemplifies a strong commitment to sustainable development in the region.
