Course Description
- PLBR 711: Quantitative and population Genetics (5 ECTS). Quantifying and dissecting genetic variances, genotype-by-environmental interactions, association of traits, and mapping of quantitative traits to respective genomic region using natural population or mapping population.
- PLBR 721: Advanced Molecular Genetics (5 ECTS). Introduces students with advancements in molecular genetics: generating and processing of next-generation-sequencing data, use of advanced statistics to utilize SNP data, genome editing, RNA silencing.
- PLBR 731: Advanced Seed Technology (5 ECTS). Overviews advanced knowledge in concept of seed production, supply, and seed quality, with emphasis on physiological and genetic seed quality based on biotechnological tools.
- PLBR 741 and PLBR 752: Recent Topics in Plant Breeding I and II (4 ECTS). Students are exposed to select current topics in plant breeding, review literatures, make presentations to open forum for discussion about possible area of interventions.
- PLBR 712: Molecular Plant Breeding (5 ECTS). Basics in molecular plant breeding, focusing on genetic systems and genomic libraries, molecular marker technologies, molecular characterization of germplasm, recent developments in production of transgenic plants.
- PLBR 722: Breeding for Biotic and Abiotic Stress Resistance (3 ECTS). Introduces major biotic and abiotic stresses in plants, mechanisms to cope with the stresses, physiological pathways in plant defense mechanisms, traits to incorporate in breeding.
- PLBR 732: Advanced Biostatistics for Plant Breeding (5 ECTS). Introduction to experimental designs, different recent models used to estimate variance, association mappings and genomic prediction.
- PLBR 742: Scientific Research Method and Paper Writing (3 ECTS). The course deals with the methods, techniques and general ethics of scientific research, proposal preparation, thesis compilation and scientific papers writing for publication.
- ANPR 531: Plant Biochemistry (5 ECTS). Structure and function of biomolecules, metabolism and techniques in biochemistry.
- PLPB751: Bioinformatics (5 ECTS). Get familiar with bioinformatics databases like NCBI and retrieve information out of them. Working on sequence data: quality control, filtering, pre-processing, SNP calling and filtering.
- PLBR 772: Breeding for Quality Traits (5 ECTS). Analytical and selection techniques for quality traits, genetics of quality traits and their association with yield and other traits, breeding approaches, achievements and prospects.
- PLBR 762: Advances in Plant Breeding (5 ECTS). Recent advances in breeding methodology, current advances in developing mapping population, advances in mutation breeding and epigenetics.
- PLBR 811: PhD Thesis Research. A PhD candidate is required to identify a research problem relevant to the field and conduct problem-oriented research publishable in a reputable international journal.
